Neighborhood Sitting Groups

 

Small groups of meditators led by experienced SIMS practitioners have formed local sitting groups to better serve SIMS members in outlying areas. Currently, these groups are led on Bainbridge Island, in Kirkland, and in West Seattle. To learn about specific meetings, please consult the event calendar.

Current Sitting Groups

  • Bainbridge Island Weekly Meditation Group

    Description:

    		 Vipassana tradition. Suggested donation: $3-4. Contact Paula Schmidt at 206-842-6059 or by email (below). Rodney does not attend the sittings.

    Meeting time:

    		 Every Monday (except holidays) 7:00 - 8:30 PM

  • Capitol Hill Neighborhood Sitting Group

    Description:

    This group will be led by Tuere Sala, a SIMS local dharma leader. 

    Meeting time:

    		 First and third Thursdays, beginning October 6, 2011; 6:30 to 8:00 pm

    All Pilgrims Church, Colonial Room
    500 Broadway East, Seattle (enter around the back on 10th Avenue)

  • Madison Park Weekly Meditation Group

    Description:

    Appropriate for beginners and experienced meditators, this weekly sit, led by local dharma leader Ellen McCown, includes meditation instruction (as needed), a theme for reflection, walking meditation, and an opportunity for questions and discussion about the meditation experience. The style of meditation is vipassana, a Pali term that translates as "seeing clearly into reality."

    Meeting time:

    		 Thursdays, 7:00 - 8:00 AM

    Lila Yoga Studio - 2812 E. Madison Street

    There is no charge for the class; however, donations are accepted by both Lila Yoga Studio for its costs, and by the teacher, in the spirit of dana (generosity).

  • SIMS Eastside Meditation Group

    Description:

    The SIMS Eastside Meditation Group sittings are co-facilitated by Steve and Ellen Wilhelm at the Wilhelms' home in the Rose Hill area of Kirkland, with occasional visits from SIMS Guiding Teacher Rodney Smith. As a group we are nurturing an Eastside dharma community and supporting each other's practice. All interested people are welcome.   • SIMS West Seattle Meditation Group

    Description:

    Vipassana tradition. The West Seattle sitting group is a drop-in group dedicated to supporting the meditation practice of people living in West and South Seattle. Previous Vipassana practice and/or previous attendance at Rodney's beginning meditation group is helpful; however, all are welcome.
